This study was conducted to design, construct and test the performance of ash dispenser for ECOSAN toilets in terms of dispensing capacity and efficiency. It also aimed to determine the cost and benefits that can be derived from the device. The ash dispenser had eight (8) major parts, namely: hopper, upper tube assembly, ash dispenser, lower tube assembly, splash assembly, breather, sight glass and pushing rod. Mixtures of sand and ash with varying amounts were used as treatments in testing the performance of the dispenser, as follows: T1 - 100% ash (Control) T2 - 95% ash + 5% sand T3 - 90% ash + 10% sand T4 - 85% ash + 15% sand T5 - 80% ash + 20% sand Results of the study showed that T (80% ash + 20% sand) obtained both the highest dispensing capacity and efficiency with 0.47 kg and 94%, respectively. On the other hand, T (100% ash) registered both the lowest dispensing capacity of 0.30 kg and efficiency of 60%. Analysis of Variance revealed highly significant results among treatments in terms of dispensing capacity and efficiency. This finding showed that mixing ash with sand resulted to a better downward flow of the absorbent. efficiency and capacity of the device was better as the amount of sand was increased. The cost of the device was 2,712.85 Philippine peso.
