Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) as bioindicator of pollution by heavy metals the urban soils within the area of Szczecin municipality [Poland]

The antropogenic soils located in vicinity of roads within the area of Szczecin (Poland) municipality manifested elevated content of Cd, Pb, Zn, Cu in surface (0-30 cm) layer. Chemical analysis of root system as well as leaves of dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) collected from such sites confirmed that this plant accumulate substantial amounts mentioned above heavy metals and its root system fulfilled the role of good bioindicator of soil pollution by heavy metals. In case of cadmium the role of good bioindicator may fulfilled also the leaves
