Morphological composition and some chemical properties of compost produced from selected organic fraction of municipal wastes

The organic fraction before composting and compost produced from selected organic fraction were examined during the studies. Characteristic features of organic fraction and produced composts is high content of ballast (particularly glass) and proportionally low content of organic matter. Composting in prism resulted in obtaining the mature product (with mean ratio C:N as 9.4:1). Such compost characterized slightly alkaline reaction and very high content of available K and Mg. Only content of P is low or very low. Content of Zn, Cu and Ni exceeded the values given for standards for I class of compost. Among examined heavy metals found in composts particularly solubility of Pb, Cd, Zn, and Mn is high
