Effect of different protein and lysine levels in nutrition of weaned piglets

Three levels of protein (18, 20 and 22%) at two levels of digestible energy were tested in nutrition of the weaned piglets. An experiment has been carried out on 144 weaned piglets divided in six groups, according to energy:lysine ratio. Reduction of protein level down to 18% caused a decrease of daily weight gain accompained with an increase of feed intake per kilogram of weight gain, while 22% protein level did not improve weight gain but reduced the feed intake per kilogram of weight gain. Consumption of protein and lysine per kilogram of weight gain was increasing as the level of protein in mixture get higher, which point out that the structure of protein in mixtures should be rediscussed.
