Biological-pomological characteristics of walnut cultivars and selections with lateral fruit buds

This paper presents characteristics of the cultivars and walnut selection with lateral fruit buds. The paper points out that choice of cultivar is very important for plant production, especially for fruit production in which walnut is quite specific. It should be mentioned that the Faculty of Agriculture in Novi Sad, Serbia, has been engaged in walnut selection for more than 45 years and that it was started by Prof. Mirko Rudic. The five cultivars developed at the Centre are the first and only Yugoslav walnut cultivars. The selections Rasna, Kasni Rodni, Milko and Macva are readily suitable for commercial production and for hybridization.
