The influence of planting distance on vegetative potential of strawberry cultivars (Fragaria ananassa Duch.)

The influence of different planting distance (15x30 cm, 20x30 cm, 30x30 cm, and 40x30 cm) on more important parameters of vegetative potential in two newly introduced strawberry cultivars (Marmolada and Elsanta) and the standard cultivar (Senga Sengana) were investigated. Planting was done on banks covered with a black polyethylene foil, in the form of a band with two rows. The lowest values of the majority of studied parameters were recorded in smaller planting distances of 15x30 cm and 20x30 cm in all invetigated cultivars, while planting distances of 30x30 cm and 40x30 cm had a positive effect on these values. The cultivar Senga Sengana (standard) expressed the greatest values in the root length, number of leaves and fruitful stalk per tiller and the total leaf surface of a tiller. At the same, the cultivar Elsanta had the highest values of the rosette height and the size of one leaf surface, while the greatest number of plants per tiller was recorded in the cultivar Marmolada. The other indices of vegetative potential of newly introduced strawberry cultivars were lower than of te standard cultivar.
