A number of fungal species are disease agents of sunflower seedlings. Fungi from the genera Fusarium, Phythium and Rhizoctonia are agents of damping-off, diseases that pose problems in countries with warm and humid springs. These diseases have been registered in our country. Known under a collective name of damping-off, there diseases cause sunflower seedlings to rot and perish. Similar symptoms are also caused by Plasmopara halstedii, Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, Botrytis cinerea, etc. There are no satisfactory control measures. Crop rotation and use of healthy seeds are cultivation practices which tend to reduce the incidence of the diseases.
