During the 20th century a great progress in food production and processing was made, being the result of general education of farmers, development of research services and an extensive advancement of fundamental and applied scientific disciplines. Extremely great industrial development and use of chemization in food production resulted in a high level of environmental pollution namely of soil, waters and air, which led to contamination of staple food products in everyday diet. This unavoidably brought about a need for the production of organic food improving organism growth and development without any harmful effects. A satisfactory level of production of strategic agricultural products using the conventional crop farming method has been achieved in Serbia. Consumers conscience has brought about the need for products without any harmful substances on domestic market as well. For this reason it is necessary to thoroughly examine the possibilities of organic food production and establish organic food production in the broader territory of our country for both domestic and export needs.
