Investigation of wine clarification by applying alkali activated bentonite Bogovina

This paper presents the results of investigation of properties and alkali activation of bentonine from Coal Mine Bogovina, Serbia, aimimg to obtain the product for wine clarification. Bentonite was alkali activated by different amounts of Na2CO3. This way obtained alkali activated bentonities, were applied in wine clarification and the effect of clarification was investigated depending on degree of activation and compared to the effect of few commercial bentonities. Furthermore, the influence of wine treatment with bentonite on colour of wine, was infectigated. The effect of clarification and stability of clarified wines with inactivated bentonite Bogovina was close to the effect of commercially used bentonites. Regardless the high content of iron in inactivated bentonite, the iron content in clarified wines was significantly lower from the limit values. The obtained results show that inactivated bentonite Bogovina can be used in wine clarification.
