Genetic factor being most important in determination of androgenous ability, the aim of this study was to investigate differences in androgenous ability between heterozygous (F1 hybrids) and homozygous genotypes (parents) in wheat. Main androgenetic components were examined: androgenous capacity, callus yield, regeneration capacity, frequencies of green and albino regenerants and proportion of green to albino regenerants. Cytological characteristics were also analyzed in green regenerants obtained from anthers of heterozygous genotypes. Six hundred anthers were isolated from each genotype (20 F1 hybrids and 24 parent genotypes). Significant differences were found between the genotypes with respect to the studied characteristics. Average values for most of the characteristics were significantly higher in the F1 hybrids than in the parents. Differences between the average values of the homozygous and heterozygous genotypes were nonsignificant only for the regeneration ability and frequency of albino regenerants.
