This study presents the results of radionuclide presence in soil and the risks for human health after their ingestion, mostly with herbal and animal products. Natural radionuclides are present since the beginning of earth. However, the problems and health risks for people started with the intensive input of radionuclides into the soil, as a consequence of human behavior. This primary includes nuclear testing and accidents on nuclear plants. The use of mineral fertilizers in soil as well as mineral additives in animal feed represent ways of accumulation of natural radionuclides in agricultural products. Besides the natural ways, we also described the introduction of 137Cs into the soil as a man-made radionuclide. The studies about radionuclide presence in soil became actual especially after the nuclear accident in Chernobyl. This work presents the results of studies about the level of activity in natural and artificially made radionuclides on four locations in Serbia: mountains Kopaonik and Maljen, Toplica county and Bor.
