This monograph presents the sediment regime in the Serbian sector of the Danube river, both upstream and within the Iron Gate Reservoir. Extensive field investigation data were used to describe the most important parameters of sediment transport and deposition processes, including riverbed composition and suspended sediment characteristics (grain size and concentration). The influence of large tributaries of the Danube (the Tisza, the Sava, and the Velika Morava), which have specific hydrologic and psammological characteristics, is also addressed. A special section of the monograph is devoted to the description of Iron Gate 1 HPNS utilization, its development, and its operation regime. Characterisitics of the dam, riparian lands and the large and very specific reservoir are described briefly. This monograph contains a description of the methodology used for field measurements of the Dabube sediment, since such measurements were the basis for forming an understanding of relevant phenomena and processes which occurred prior to erection of the dam and during the post-impoundment period. In addition, the results of a quantitative assessment of sediment transport processes in the Danube are presented, based on statistical analyses of data obtained from discharge and suspended sediment measurements.
