Ultrasonographic postpartal diagnostics of fertility disorders in cows and their treatment

We have studied the success in treatment of fertility disorders in experimental herds at the Research Institute for Animal Production Nitra. The sexual cycle of cows in these herds is watched regularly and intensively. Sonographic apparatus Aloka SSD 500V for veterinary purposes was used to diagnose the disorders. In the group of cows treated with preparation Sergon inj.sicc.ad us.vet., Bioveta Ivanovice na Hane, CZ, became pregnant 84.0 % cows, out of them 59.8 % after more than 20 days following the application. In the group of cows applied the preparation Remophan inj.ad us. Vet., Leciva, Joint-stock Comp., Prague, CZ, became pregnant 86.7 % cows. Better results were obtained if the preparation was applied at the presence of follicle on ovaries larger than 5 mm. During the treatment of ovarian cysts, after the application of preparation Supergestran inj.ad us. Vet., Ferring-Leciva, Prague CZ, became pregnant 79.6 % cows. Success of treatment is closely connected with early diagnostics of cysts on ovaries. We recommend to apply the preparation Sergon to cycling and non-cycling cows after parturition, if they have no yellow body on ovaries, to stimulate the growth and ripening of follicles in a dose 500-1000 IU i.m. We recommend the preparation Remophan in a dose of 2 ml i.m. for cows after parturition, in which no oestrus occurred or they did not get in calf after mating and the yellow body is on their ovaries. We recommend mating 2 times, in 48-72 hours, with marked signs of oestrus only. To treat the follicular cysts we recommend the application of the preparation Supergestran i.v. to the naval vein in the dose 4 ml. Rectal examination is necessary 11 days after application, and with luteinization of cysts PGF2 alpha is necessary with following mating in 42-78 hours. Examination and treatment of cysts must be done within 60 days after calving.
