Lucerne is considered to be hard to ensilage because of low content of water-soluble carbohydrates and high content of buffer substances. Application of silage additives is therefore inevitable for its conservation. We ensilaged lucerne from first cut, its dry matter after wilting was 37.46 % (table I). We studied the effect of application of biological-enzymatic additive on fermentation process and quality of produced silage. Parameters of fermentation process in lucerne silages are in table II. Weight losses of dry matter in silage without treatment represented 9.12 %. Application of biological additive decreased these losses almost by 1%, we did not find positive effect of biological-enzymatic preparation on dry matter losses in silage. The highest pH was found in non-treated silages (4.63) and the lowest one in silage treated with biological-enzymatic preparation (4.46). Positive effect of treatment by additives made itself felt also in increased content of lactic acid from 6.89 % to 7.88 % in silage treated by biological preparation, and 7.49 % in silage treated by biological-enzymatic preparation and in reduction of content of volatile fatty acids, alcohols and NH3 out of total N. In silages treated by additives was preserved higher content of crude protein, NDF and hemicelluloses and lower content of fibre and ADF (table III). Owing to the enzymatic component was degradation of the fibre complex the highest in silages treated by biological-enzymatic preparation. Positive effect of application of selected additives manifested itself in improvement of fermentation process and all-round quality of produced lucerne silages in our work.
