Evaluation in product quality of in-store corn drying

Aim of this research is to study the feasibility of in-store corn drying. Both economics and acceptable corn quality are taken into consideration. Some parts of this research, energy consumption and corn quality, are presented in this paper. The equipment had been installed at Pra Buddha Baht Settlement Agricultural Cooperatives. Ambient air flow rate of 5.44 cubic m/min-cubic m of corn was ventilated through a 30 t capacity corn bulk of which initial moisture content was 19 percent wet-basis. The experimental results showed that aflatoxin B-1 production during the experiment was completely inhibited as compared to that at the beginning of corn drying even if the number of corn kernels infected with Aspergillus flavus increased. In decreasing moisture content of corn from 19 percent wet-basis to 12.5 percent wet-basis, electricity consumption was 15 kW-h/t of corn (USdollar 0.9/t of corn).
