Study of growth in kwaao khruea species under different environmental conditions was conducted. Survey and collection of planting materials grown under natural conditions were undertaken in the eastern region of Thailand. The only kwaao khruea species found during the survey was red kwaao khruea. The plants survived well in the areas where there was forest conservation, paticularly, near streams in which wild bamboo trees established. The red kwaao khruea rhizomes were collected and planted to compare growth with white kwaao khruea (derived from Sangklaburi district, Kanchanaburi province) at Khao Hin Son Research Station, Chachoengsao province. Planting season began in May 2000 and ended in November 2000. It was found that both red and white kwaao khruea grew well under the environments of the eastern parts of Thailand. Their growth, however, became dormant during summer or dry season.
