Mechanism of action of nephrotoxic mycotoxin Ochratoxin A and various methods of diagnostics

Scientific survey was made concerning the various mechanisms of action of nephrotoxic mycotoxin ochratoxin A (OTA) and their importance in various animals. The mechanisms of disturbed protein synthesis and the disturbance of metabolism energy provoked by OTA were refered. A reference is also made concerning the influence of OTA on lipid peroxidation and immune system. The reference was carried out in the world literature concerning the main and traditional methods of detecting OTA in forages, blood, urine and animal tissues. An attempt was made to evaluate the efficacy and applicability of these methods or of their combine in various animal serum/tissue samples in the practice. A differential diagnosis was made between nephrotoxic diseases with multicausal nature.
