Effect of ration structure on sone rumen and blood characteristics of the carbohydrate metabolism in sheep

The objective of the study is to determine the effect of the diet structure on some parameters characterizing carbohydrate metabolism in the rumen and blood of the sheep. The study comprises 6 ram lambs of the Thracian fine-fleece breed with an average live weight of 44.600 kg, divided in two groups. The experimental animals of group one received a diet containing 90 % of meadow hay, and the second group - 90 % of concentrate mixture. It has been established that the high concentrated diet outlines a tendency for keeping relatively lower values of pH in the rumen content. The inclusion of 90% meadow hay in the diet increases total concentration of VFA in the rumen content 2.5 hrs after feeding (P0.05). The diet with 90 % meadow hay increases the molar percentage of acetic acid before feeding and shows tendency for higher values 2.5 hrs after feeding. The diet with 90 % of concentrate mixture increases the molar percentage of propionic and fat acids before feeding and shows tendency for higher rates 2.5 hrs after feeding. The total quantity of the infusoria is higher when diet is with 90% concentrated mixture, unsignificantly before feeding and significantly 2.5 hrs. after feeding. The diet with 90 % meadow hay increases the percentage of Infusoria from g. Entodinium (P0.05 and p0,001) and decreases the percentage of Infusoria from g. Isotricha (P 0.001) and g. Dasytricha (P 0.001). The concentrated diet has an inhibiting effect on the celulolyitic activity of the rumen content (P0.001).
