Research results of reduced (GSH) and oxidized (GSSG) redox-status of glutathione estimation in vegetative tissues of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) green germs in the conditions of long-term drought were presented. Changing of GSH/GSSG ratio in barley leaves depending on drought duration of was investigated. Changes of GSH, GSSG, GSH+GSSG and correlation between GSH/GSSG in 14-day old leaves of barley in the conditions of water deficiency were calculated. Changes of fluorescence intensity in the conditions of 420 nm after addition of orthophthalic aldehyde were analysed. Changes in soil absolute humidity and content of GSH and GSSG in barley germs were stated. Investigation results showed that in the conditions of water deficiency the parameters GSG/GSSG increased that was substantiated by the increasing of pool of reduced glutathione. It was supposed that crops with initially higher level of redox-status of glutathione were more resistant to drought and the obtained index could be used for the monitoring of new varieties of cultivated crops for searching for crops resistant to water deficiency
