Investigation of the influence of low positive temperature (+2 deg C) on the content of low molecular weight antioxidants such as general and reduced ascorbate, glutathione disulfide (GSSG), reduced glutathione (GSH), carotenoids and water-soluble phenols as well as the evaluation of the level of the analysed antioxidants in the post - stress period in green barley (Hordeum vulgareL.) leaves was realized. It was shown that in the conditions of low temperature stress there was the increasing of content of general and reduced ascorbate, GSH, phenols and carotenoids. At the same time, the content of reduced ascorbate increased in 3 times while the level of other low molecular weight antioxidants increased in 1,3 times. After termination of chilling stress there was noted the rapid decrease of general ascorbate and glutathione up to the initial level registered before the stress action. At the same time, the content of phenols and carotenoids was lower in comparison with their initial level before stress. The content of GSH in post-stress period remained higher (1,8 times) than on the initial level. The obtained data testified the important role of low molecular weight antioxidants, especially the reduced ascorbate in the protection of plant cells against negative influence of low temperature stress
