The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of fermented pig slurry (FPS) used as a replacement of industrial mineral fertilizers on the quality of 5 vegetable species. Tomatoes were grown in vessels, celery and spinach in a field, radish and lettuce in a greenhouse. Concentrations of dry matter, nitrates, Pb, Cd, As, Zn and Hg were determined. Total mesophilic bacteria, mould and yeast counts were assessed. Our results show that the FPS may be used as a suitable mineral fertilizer replacement. Yields and dry matter content values were better when using FPS than when applying mineral fertilizers. FPS did not affect the hygienic quality of the vegetables.
