The past sugar campaign 2007/08 in the Czech Republic was characterized by a high technological quality of the processed beet and abnormal climatic conditions throughout the growing and treatment seasons. The average sugar content was 16.47%, 2.415 million tons of beet were processed with an average yield of 54.7 t/ha of sugar beet and 9.01 t/ha of polarization sugar. The total processing time was 83 days and the total production of white sugar reached 353.9 kt. Ten sugar factories were operating in the Czech Republic, their total capacity was 35,356 tons per day. These data confirm that the Czech Republic is among the leading sugar producers in the European Union.
