Production and resistance of microshoot encapsulation of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.)

An experiment was carried out at the Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory, Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University, Padang from March to October 2003. The objective of the experiment was to obtain the best concentration of paclobutrazol to maintain microshoot vigor on seed encapsulation with alginat. The experiment has two treatments: (1) concentration of paclobutrazol 0.010 mg/l, 0.015 mg/l, 0.020 mg/l and 0.025 mg/l and (2) concentration of alginat: 1.5 percent, 2.0 percent, 2.5 percent and 3.0 percent. Treatments were arranged in Completely Randomized Design with 10 replications. Observations included plantlet height, number of shoot, number of leaf, number of root, root length, life percentage, and condition of capsul. Result indicated that 0,020 mg/l paclobutrazol was the best to maintain the size of potato microshoot, and 2.0 percent alginat was the best to support potato microshoot vigor.
