An experiment was conducted to study inheritance of seed number per pod and testa colour in peanut consisted of P1, P2 F1, F1 reciprocal, F2.1 (F1 offspring) and F2.2 (F1 reciprocal offspring) populations derived from ICGIOO68 x AH29 Si at Experiment Station of Agriculture Faculty, Padjadjaran University, Jatinangor from May 2001 until October 2001, with populations planted in spreaded arrangement in three blocks to eliminate environmental bias. Results indicated that there was maternal effect in seed number per pod but not in testa colour. Seed number per pod and testa colour were qualitative inherited, as indicated by discontinuous phenotypic frequency distribution of F2 populations. Based on the progeny of ICGIOO68 x AH29SI crossing, the inheritance of seed number per pod showed a 9:7 ratio, and based on the reciprocal crossing this character was controlled by nuclear-cytoplasmic genes following the 13:3 ratio. The inheritance of testa colour showed a 7:4:3:2 ratio.
