The experiment investigated the effect of organic matter application on aluminium (Al) phytotoxicity in acid soil. The experiment was conducted in Laboratory of Soil and Physics, Faculty of Agriculture, Lambung Mangkurat University from July to August 1999. There were eight combinations of treatment. The first factor was organic matter (compost) of enceng gondok (Eichhornia crassipes), jagung straw (Zea mays L.), and alang-alang (Imperata cylindrica L.) and the second factor was Al solution with concentration was 9.25 micron mol.L-1. The treatments were arranged in a completely randomized design with three replications. The results of experiment showed that the application of enceng gondok compost decreased concentration of Al in solution from 9.25 micron mol. L-1 to 1.22 micron mol. L-1 and improved the growth of kacang nagara roots (Vigna sp.).
