Utilization of un-decorticated sunflower seed meal in different cereal based diets with or without addition of mixed enzymes in broilers

Day-old broiler chicks (180) were randomly distributed into 18 groups of 10 chicks each. Diets (3) were formulated separately for starting and finishing phases with maize-soya conventional control diet (D1); maize-soy-sorghum-SSM (D2) and maize-soy-finger millet-sunflower seed meal(D3). Each diet was offered to 3 groups of birds with or with out the addition of enzyme following 3 diets)x2(with or without enzyme) factorial design. Enzyme preparation measured to containB glucosidase,35132+216;B-D-xylanopyrasidase, 98466+481; xylanase, 2202+58; CM cellulase, 1906+12.5; FTPase, 397+4.6; and amylase, 5773+51 mIU/g preparation (added @50g/100 kg). At the end of the tria, 8 birds were randomly selected and sacrificed to evaluate the carcass traits. The body weight gain during starting phase and feed conversion efficiency at any growth phase improved in finger millet based diet containing 10; SSM. In soghummaize-10; SSM diet also marginal improvement in growth of starting broilers and feed conversion efficiency during both the phases was observed. Cost of production however reduced in sorghum+maize+10; SSM diet only. It is concluded that enzyme supplementation was beneficial in improving the utilization of sunflower seed meal supplemented in maize finger millet or maize-sorghum based broiler diets, though it was not so in case of onventional corn-soybean meal based broiler diet.
