A survey on food diet of silver pomfret in important Fishing area in Hormozgan province waters

Pampus argenfeus belong to stromatiedae family is a very important commercial fish, with some major fisheries ground in Hormozgan province waters. The stomach content of 848 specimens coii~cted from Jun 200 I to November 2002 were investigated. We determinated Contents of stomach in relation to length classes, gonad stages, vacuity index, Gastromatic index and frequency percentage of different food items were determined. The diet consisted of a broad spectrum of food types, but crustacea (espically copepoda) were dominant, the next major food group was Bacillariophyceae( 16-genus), Followed by cyanophyceae( 6-genus), Mollusca, other group (scale and fish egg, Nematoda, Foraminifiera) and Dinophyceae(6genus). Copepods were primary and main food items, Bacillariophycea the second most important prey. The vacuity index, Cv, was 14.49 indicated the vorcity of Pampus argenteus. Gastrosomatic index very variety during the sampling period and l11~x=4.5 in February. Key words: Pampus argenteus, Stomach contents, Diet, Hormozgan province
