Evaluation and selection of plant in segregating generations of Barley

Segregation of the traits in crosses of barley begins with the F2 generation and continue for fllowing generations, at these stages various combination, differing from those traits of parent are created and the highest segregation obtained. With the examination of individual plants at various stages, plants with suitable characters and high yield and free of disadvantages are selected. In this evaluation, 67 number of F2 segregation generation, 33 number of F3, 13 number of F4, 8 number of F5 , 69 number of F6 and 4 number of F7participated. Modified bulk metod was used in selection of plants with desired combination of characters within F2 and F3 generations and pedigree method was use for F4 generation. In F6 generation in which generic puritiy was reached, line selection was done. After threshing heads based on desirable characters of the grain, some of them were culled and 119 lines and, 9 pure lines were selected for the following generation and preliminary trials, respectively.
