Serological Study Of Bovine Leukemia Virus (BLV) Infection In Cattle In Ahwaz

In order to investigate the prevalence of Bovine Leukemia Virus (BLV) , blood samples were taken from 600 cattle in Ahwaz. Sera were stored at -20 until to ready for test. The sera were tested for BLV antibodies using the agar gel immunodiffusion test (AGID) with a commercial kit detection anti-gp51 antibodies.The test was carried out as described by the manufacturer (Bioveta Company). Out of 600 cattle, 3 (0.5%) cattle, including 2 cross breed and 1 native breed from non-industrial farms were positive while all holstein breed in industrial farms reacted as seronegative. The age of all infected cattle was more than five years and they were delivered of calf 2-4 months ago. The results of this study show the prevalence of BLV infection in Ahwaz is considerably lower than those reported for other regions of Iran.
