Double labelling immunohistochemistry on the nervous fibres of retractor clitoridis muscle of the sow

Double labelling immunohistochemistry was used to study the occurrence and co-localization of tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) with several biologically active substances, such as vesicular acetylcholine transporter (VAChT), neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS), calcitonine gene related peptide (CGRP), leu-enkephaline (LENK), neuropeptide Y (NPY), substance P (SP) and vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP) in the retractor clitoridis muscle (RCM) of adult sows. Double immunofluorescence method revealed that nerve terminals immunoreactive (IR) for the combination of TH and NPY were frequent, while the colocalization of TH with other markers was not found. [E' stata utilizzata la doppia marcatura fluorescente per studiare la presenza e la co-localizzazione della tirosina idrossilasi (TH) con diverse sostanze biologicamente attive, come il trasportatore vescicolare dell'acetilcolina (VAChT), la ossido nitrico sintetasi neuronale (nNOS), il peptide correlato al gene della calcitonina (CGRP), la leu-encefalina (LENK), il neuropeptide Y (NPY), la sostanza P (SP) e il polipeptide intestinale vasoattivo (VIP) nel muscolo retrattore del clitoride (RCM) di scrofe adulte. Il metodo della doppia marcatura fluorescente ha messo in evidenza che le fibre nervose immunoreattive (IR) per la combinazione di TH e NPY erano frequenti, mentre non è stata riscontrata la co-localizzazione di TH con altri marcatori. Sono state pure documentate fibre singolarmente IR alle diverse sostanze saggiate. In particolare, in ordine decrescente di densità, è stata accertata IR a TH, NPY, CGRP, VIP, SP, VAChT, LENK.]
