Effect of plant maturity and germplasm on in situ rumen degradability and rate of passage of alfalfa hay

英语. The study compared 3 alfalfa hays: one from a local ecotype cut at full flowering stage and the remaining from a synthetic cultivar cut at pre-flowering and full flowering stages. Forage DM, CP and NDF degradation was evaluated in situ with the nylon bags technique, using 3 Brown cows. The rate of passage was measured by using hay samples mordented with Na2Cr2O7. A set of orthogonal contrasts was carried out to test the effects of hay maturity and germplasm. Compared to the latter cut, the hay made at pre-flowering stage had a greater CP and a lower NDF content. This better composition increased the rumen disappearance of DM (60.9 vs 50.3%) and NDF (32.1 vs 26.4%), but did not affect protein degradation and rate of passage. The comparison between the ecotype and the synthetic variety carried out at the same stage of maturity did not show any difference for both rumen degradation and passage rate

[Lo studio ha avuto per oggetto il confronto fra tre fieni di erba medica; uno di un ecotipo locale sfalciato allo stadio di piena fioritura e due di una cultivar sintetica sfalciati allo stadio di pre-fioritura e di piena fioritura. E' stata valutata in situ, con la tecnica delle nylon bags, la degradabilità della SS, della PG e della NDF del foraggio, utilizzando tre vacche Brown. La velocità di transito è stata misurata utilizzando campioni di fieno mordentati con Na2Cr2O7. E' stato ottenuto un set di contrasti ortogonali per verificare gli effetti dello stadio di maturazione del fieno e del germoplasma. Rispetto all'ultimo sfalcio, il taglio effettuato allo stadio di pre-fioritura presentava un contenuto maggiore di PG e un minor contenuto di NDF. Questa migliore composizione ha determinato un aumento della degradazione ruminale della SS (60,9 vs 50,3%) e della NDF (32,1 vs 26,4%), ma non ha influenzato la degradazione delle proteine e la velocità di transito. Il confronto fra l'ecotipo e la varietà sintetica effettuato allo stesso stadio di maturità non ha evidenziato alcuna differenza, sia per la degradazione ruminale, sia per la velocità di transito.]
