Influence of hot season and nutrition on oxidative status of lactating goats

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of the hot season and nutrition on the oxidative status of lactating goats. 24 Derivata di Siria goats, homogeneous for age, live weight and milk production, were allocated into 3 groups which received the following nutritional treatments: natural pasture (P), pasture plus 500 g/head/d of concentrate (POCC) and hay plus 500 g/head/d of concentrate (FC). A blood sample was taken from all animals every 2 weeks in May and July. Soon after sampling, Hb and ROMs values were determined. GHS-Px and SOD activities were determined, respectively, in the whole blood and in erythrocytes. Our results show that SOD, GSH-Px and ROMs levels increased during the hot season (July), when THI values were high. The increased concentration of ROMs in the POCC and FC groups could be ascribed to the nutritional regime and to the higher production level observed

Ventiquattro pecore di razza Derivata di Siria, omogenee per età, peso vivo e produzione di latte, sono state attribuite a tre gruppi, che sono stati sottoposti ai seguenti trattamenti alimentari: pascolo naturale (P), pascolo più 500 g/capo/g di concentrato (POCC) e fieno più 500 g/capo/g di concentrato (FC). Da tutti gli animali è stato prelevato un campione di sangue ogni due settimane in maggio e luglio. Subito dopo il campionamento sono stati determinati i valori dell'emoglobina e dei ROM. Le attività della GHS-Px e della SOD sono state determinate, rispettivamente, sul sangue intero e negli eritrociti. I nostri risultati dimostrano che i livelli di SOD, GSH-Px e ROM aumentavano nella stagione calda (luglio), quando i valori di THI erano elevati. L'aumento di concentrazione dei ROM nei gruppi POCC ed FC potrebbe essere collegato al regime nutrizionale e al maggior livello produttivo registrato.]
