Role of barks used in highbush blueberry mulching on Armillaria spp. infections [Vaccinium corymbosum Frank ex Dunal; Trentino]

英语. Since 2003 highbush blueberry plants with atypical growth were found in Trentino region (North-Eastern Italy). At the beginning plants were stunted and developed small leaves that reddened prematurely in Autumn. Then roots rotted, several branches wilted and plants usually died within few months. The microorganisms found on rotted roots of symptomatic plants were preliminarily identified as Armillaria sp.. Armillaria sp. was also isolated from barks used as cover mulching. The isolates were inoculated on healthy plants to prove their pathogenicity. Molecular methods were used to identify the Armillaria species present on infected plants and on nearby mulching barks. The analysis was carried on DNA extracted directly from Armillaria mycelium derived from root and bark samples. The isolates coming from the infected plants and barks were both able to produce symptoms on newly inoculated plants and they were identified as A. gallica and A. mellea by molecular analysis. Le piante si presentavano stentate, sviluppavano foglie piccole che arrossivano prematuramente in autunno, le radici marcivano, inoltre numerosi rami disseccavano e in genere le piante morivano dopo alcuni mesi. I microrganismi rinvenuti sulle radici di individui sintomatici sono stati preliminarmente identificati come Armillaria sp.. Armillaria sp. è stata isolata anche da cortecce impiegate nella pacciamatura. Gli isolati sono stati inoculati su piante sane per dimostrarne la patogenicità. Tecniche di genetica molecolare sono state impiegate per l'identificazione delle specie di Armillaria presenti sulle piante infette e sulle cortecce utilizzate come pacciamatura. L'analisi è stata svolta su DNA estratto direttamente dal micelio degli isolati. Gli isolati, derivati da piante infette e corteccia, sono stati entrambi in grado di riprodurre i sintomi una volta inoculati in piante sane e sono stati identificati come A. gallica e A. mellea. In un impianto monitorato nel corso degli ultimi due anni, la malattia è in lenta crescita
