Comparison between spur and Sylvoz pruning of three grapevine varieties grown in the province of Reggio Emilia [Vitis vinifera L.; Emilia-Romagna]]

In order to compare Sylvoz pruned and spur pruned grapevines, a test was carried out by the Consortium for the protection and supervision of the Reggiano and Colli di Scandiano e di Canossa CDO wines, in the province of Reggio Emilia. The preliminary investigation aimed at testing the two different pruning systems, with regard to yield of Ancellotta, Lambrusco Salamino and Lambrusco Oliva grapevine varieties. The high yield, vegetative growth and shoot vigour were due to the high soil fertility of the plain, where the test was carried out. The three cultivars showed the same results, which are summarised as follows: with the same bud load/plant, the production of the spur pruned grapevines was lower; the number of bunches/plant in the Sylvoz plot was higher than in the spur pruned system and this result can be attributed to higher bud fertility. There were no significant differences in must composition

La prova è stata condotta dal Consorzio per la Tutela dei vini Reggiano e Colli di Scandiano e di Canossa al fine di fornire alcune preliminari indicazioni sulle differenze, soprattutto produttive, tra potatura lunga (Sylvoz) e corta (cordone speronato), per i vitigni Ancellotta, Lambrusco Salamino e Lambrusco Oliva coltivati in provincia di Reggio Emilia. Le aziende sede della sperimentazione si trovano in territorio di pianura, caratterizzato da elevata fertilità del suolo, che si traduce in notevole rigoglio vegetativo e alte rese/ha. I risultati comuni alle tre varietà sono così riassumibili: le tesi potate a cordone speronato hanno prodotto sempre meno, a parità di numero di nodi per ceppo lasciati con la potatura invernale, rispetto al Sylvoz; con quest'ultimo tipo di potatura si è anche ottenuto un maggior numero di grappoli per ceppo, fenomeno che si spiega con la maggiore fertilità dei nodi della potatura lunga rispetto allo sperone.
