Evaluation and renewal of the internal standard tuberculin for animal use

A phased evaluation of candidates for the renewal of the national standard tuberculin for animal use was conducted using the official potency test with parallel line assay of the intradermal reactions in a total number of 109 sensitized guinea pigs. Relative potency of the 3rd candidate against the WHO international standard for tuberculin, old was 0.96 which was 0.13 higher than that observed for the 1st candidate. These results suggested that the 3rd candidate contained 192,000 International Units, which is nearly identical to the titer stipulated for the national standard. Based on this evaluation, we concluded that the 3rd candidate was suitable as the new national standard tuberculin for animal use.
