Study for adsorption ability of materials on treated sewage of livestock wastewater plant

To clearance the residual pollutant in the purified sewage, adsorption of various materials was evaluated. Secondary treated effluents from livestock farm were cultured with ten fractured materials in the conical flasks, and the reduction in total nitrogen (T-N), total phosphorous (T-P), chroma, and CODsub(Mn) were determined. 1. Akadama soil and Kanuma soil had high ' ability of T-P and chroma adsorption. These decreased the CODsub(Mn) concentration, while we could not confirm the T-N adsorption effect. 2. Activated carbon adsorbed T-N at some level, but its effect was low. And it adsorbed T-P not that much, but adsorbed chroma and MCOsub(Mn) most of all. 3. Dehydration sludge from municipal waterworks (DS) had high ability of T-P and chroma, but didn't have ability of T-N adsorption and increased MCOsub(Mn), vice versa. Price of DS was lowest but was considered necessity of the stability confirmation. These results and overall judgment of availability of adsorbent indicated that Akadama soil had high performance for advanced wastewater purification and Kanuma soil was second.
