Variation of water distribution within living stems and its causal factors in Cryptomeria japonica (L.f.) D. Don
2007
Nakada, R.(Forest Tree Breeding Center, Juo, Ibaraki (Japan))
Cryptomeria japonica (L.f) D. Don, sugi, is a leading species for plantation forestry in Japan. One of the problems in the wood utilization of C. japonica is high cost in wood drying, due to the large variation of the green moisture content. In this study, the intra-species variation (the variation among stem, among individual trees and among genetic varieties) of water distribution in the living stem of C. japonica, and its causal factors were investigated with numerous materials from various genetic origins.
