Resident consciousness of the maintenance and conservation of agricultural resources in urban areas: A case study of Setagaya Ward in the Tokyo Metropolis [Japan]

In this study, the main object was to clarify the level of resident consciousness of the maintenance and conservation of agricultural resources in the city, based on the results of investigation of urban agriculture conducted in Setagaya Ward in the Tokyo Metropolis. From the results of analyses, we conclude that in the future, whenever examinations of improvements in maintenance and conservation of urban agricultural areas with highly valued land are conducted, it will be necessary to understand the characteristics of urban agriculture as environmental goods. Consensus building among city resident, including members of farm households, is a required condition for maintenance and conservation of agricultural resources in urban areas.
