Rice is the staple food of the nation of Sri Lanka and more than 10% of the country's people depend on paddy cultivation. It is widely agreed that reliance on female labor in rice farming agriculture is very important. In reality, a woman's time is allocated mainly for reproductive activities such as child bearing and rearing, and production activities such as animal husbandry and cultivating food crops. Therefore, the role of women is distinct from that of men, and trends indicate that women encounter difficulties in their lives. The purpose of this study is to clarify the social status and economic environment of rural women. Recently in Sri Lanka, women search for employment in the industrial sector and in the other sectors such as self employment, due to ongoing problems in the agricultural sector, and at the same time they face competition in the prevailing society.
