Effects of simple plastic-film rain shelter on the number of fungicide ingredients required for control of Japanese pear [Pyrus pyrifolia] scab (Venturia nashicola) and fruit soluble solids

We developed a simple plastic-film rain shelter that can easily be set up and removed in existing pear orchards. Using the shelter, the number of fungicide ingredients required for control of Japanese pear scab was reduced to less than half of the usual level in Shiga Prefecture. 1) When set up in existing pear orchards, the shelter cost 528,000 yen per 1,000 square m for a field in the Shiga Prefecture Agricultural Technology Promotion Center Flowering Plant and Fruit Tree Branch Station, and 512,230 yen for a field in Yamanoue (Ryuoh Town, Gamo-gun). 2) In addition to building the shelter, chemical fungicides were applied in the season when pear fruit susceptibility to Japanese pear scab was high, with autumn control and the clearance of fallen pear leaves from the ground. 3) Rain sheltering did not cause any remarkable reduction in fruit soluble solids contents; there was no need to increase the number of acaricide ingredients. Simple plastic-film rain shelter, easy to set up and remove, in existing pear orchards was developed. The reduction count of fungicide ingredient on Japanese pear scab less than fifty percent of general using level in Shiga prefecture was established by it. 1) Simple plastic rain shelter costs 528,000 yen per 10 are in Shiga Prefecture agricultural technology promotion center Flowering plant and Fruit tree branch station and 512,230 yen in Yamanoue Ryuocho Gamogun to reconstruct existing pear orchards. 2) Applications chemical fungicide at period of increasing fruit susceptibility to the Japanese pear scab and middle to late autumn and clearance fallen pear leaves from the ground added to simple plastic-film rain shelter. 3) There was no effect on decrease of fruit soluble solids content obviously and no need to increase count of acaricide ingredient on spider mite sp. by simple plastic-film rain shelter.
