The aim of the research was to determine the variability of the grain yield of malting spring barley and protein content in its grain on the area of production field and finding out the reasons of this variability. Crops cultivated in three fields' crop rotation were only influenced by two types of variability: soils and weather conditions. The largest grain yield of barley and the largest protein content was observed in the year the most suitable moisture conditions in the vegetation period and on the field, where most measurement points were located on the best soils. The range of variability for both grain yield and protein content on the area of production field was affected mainly by weather conditions in particular years
