In 1998-2000 at the Horticultural Expriment Station of the Agriculture University of Szczecin (Poland) the effect of two growing methods and plant spacing on the yield quantity and quality of Rudy F1 fennel were evaluated. The plants were grown in unheated greenhouse from seedling and from direct sowing at spacing 30x20, 30x30 and 30x40 cm. The results of the study proved that the yield of fennel depended significantly on the tested factors. In the early spring fennel may be grown from direct sowing in unheated greenhouse as a forecrop. The total yield of whole plants and marketable yield of fennel shats cultivated from seedlings was higher. Growing of fennel at density 30x20 cm gave higher total and marketable yield of shats. However from the cultivation at density 30x40 cm, bigger and better quality shafts were obtained
