In a long-band field experiment at Piwice, the effect of farmyard manure (35 t/ha) and winter wheat straw (6 t/ha + 40 kg/ha N in urea form) with NPK fertilizer application on the processing quality of four cultivars of sugarbeet was investigated. In experimental conditions, fertilization with winter wheat straw decreased significantly the content of N-alpha-NH2 in sugarbeet roots, in addition to increasing alkalinity index compared to fertilization with manure. The investigated sugarbeet cultivars were significantly differentiated in respect of their sugar content in roots. The highest sugar content in roots was in the cultivar Polko (sugar-normal type), and the lowest in cultivar Cordelia (high yield type), it had also the highest average of root mass
