In order to obtain an overview of genetic diversity present within a set of bora rice (glutinous rice) landraces of Assam, 23 bora landraces were analyzed at the DNA level using randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers. Twelve RAPD primers amplified a total of 72 fragments, 58 of which were polymorphic. Cluster analysis using UPGMA, based on the simple matching, Dice and Jaccard's coefficients, produced similar grouping patterns. Considerable genetic variation was observed along with the possibility of redundant (duplicate) accessions in collections of bora rice. The implication of these results for bora germplasm conservation and variety improvement is discussed
