The divergence in beech seedling height growth was studied at the site of acidophilous beech forest (Luzulo-Fagetum submontanum Raj. 1956) B. Jov. 1979. In the stand in which group-selection regeneration system - Femelschlag was applied, in the parts with different degrees of closure (complete canopy, fringle zone, and central zone of initial regeneration gaps), 37 beech seedlings with undisturbed growth in height were morphometrically analysed. The analysis shows that seedling heights in different environmental conditions, at the age of 11 years, range between 14.8 cm and 152.6 cm (1:10.3). The divergence in seedling height indicates different adaptive capacities of beech in the juvenile phase of development, which can be controlled by silvicultural measures.
