Effect of different feed composition on intestine and liver histology of trout in cage culture

Effects of six different feed types on intestine and liver histology of trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) cultured in the cage system was examined. The aim of the study was to investigate effects of different feeds on weight gain, condition factor, feed conversion ratio as well as on morphometrical structure of the intestine and liver, after 30 and after 60 days. Histological analysis and the study of some morphometrical parameters have shown that fish from cages that where fed with the lowest lipid content had an increase of enterocyte hight, as well as an increase in the number of mucous cells. A statistically significant trend of decrease of nuclear area pointed out lipid degeneration of hepatocytes that was found after 60 days in the majority of liver examined.
