Genetic manipulation of livestock represents one of the most important ways for improvement of production and reproduction traits. Very intensive selection carried out over the time led to the achievement of biological maximum of phenotypical expression in lot of traits. The continue with improvements it is necessary to apply breeding methods different to conventional or traditional methods. However, application of these methods can cause concerns on animal welfare. This paper deals with interrelationship among animal welfare, application of biotechnology and genetic improvement of livestock.
