[Agricultural development trends in Russia after the default]
2007
Zinchenko, A. | Matyukhina, Yu.
There are given some data on the positive and negative effects of the default. Over the post-default years the cross-sector structure for agricultural sectors has not changed dramatically. The percentage of high marketability agricultural organizations (AO) (above 80%) was 41.4% in the gross output in 2005 compared to 41.2% in 1999, and that of the household sector (marketability is about 20%) – 58.6 and 58.8%, respectively. The price disparity for agricultural produce and acquired resources after the default increased. The subsidies appeared to be insufficient to normalize the rural economy. As a consequence, the AO production potential and their number are reducing. The reduction occurs mainly owing to unprofitable organizations incapable to maintain production in the market conditions. As a whole, the output of AO is increasing (by 25% over 1999-2005) due to the crop and animal yields in the rest of AOs better adapted to the market conditions. However, the production is still low profitable both as a whole and for the main products. The low and vulnerable profitability does not allow to modernize production in the majority of AOs, to purchase new machinery, and to acquire current assets and services, to develope the modern technologies. The author analyses of the trends of the production development and marketing profitability of the main products, as well as the production efficacy in large and medium-scale AOs. The results of analyzing the number and production extension were given for the main types of products by individual farms, individual entrepreneurs and rural households.
