[Dynamics of accumulation of heavy metals in cattle]

Studied was the age dynamics of accumulating copper (cu), zinc (Zn), lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd) and iron (Fe) in organs and tissues of aborted feta, calves and cows at the farms of the Sverdlovsk region located 3-5 km away metallurgic plants. Active deposition of Fe, Cu and Zn takes place in the livers of feta throughout the fetal period increasing by 8 months 4.8, 5.77 and 7.3 times, respectively, compared to mother cows. The content of Pb and Cd in the livers of feta of all ages was lower than in cows. The content of Pb by the 8-month pregnancy time exceeded MAC 2.8 times, and the concentration of Cd (0.44 mg/kg) was above MAC by 46.6% reaching the maximum at the age of 6 months. In feta and mother-cows Pb accumulated in bone tissue being twice less in feta than in cows. The content of Cd in 6-month-old feta in livers was higher than in kidneys, while in cows its highest content was observed in kidneys. Placenta plays a barrier role inhibiting the transition of Cd and Zn into a fetus. There is a reverse correlation relationship between the contents of Cu and Fe in liver. The maximal concentration of Fe was in heifers; in cows it was lower by 22.5%. The highest level of Cu was in livers of calves. The content of Pb in livers of calves exceeded MAC by 86%, in muscular tissue – by 96%. The accumulation of Pb in muscles and kidneys increased with advancing age exceeded this value in cows by 22.7% compared to heifers. The accumulation dynamics of Cd was following in 30-day-old calves – at the level of MAC, in heifers – higher 3.8 times, in cows – 3 times. The study of the farms in the Sverdlovsk region has found lead-cadmium intoxication of cattle.
