The response of selected spring barley varieties to the foliar application of fungicide treatments

The effect of the fungicide treatment Amistar in two application rates (0.8 and 1.0 l/ha) on the development of fungal diseases, yield, 1000-kernel weight (TKW) and a portion of grain retained on the 2.5-mm slotted sieve with five varieties of spring barley (Kompakt, Jubilant, Expres, Ludan, Nitran) were studied during the 2001-2003 period. The fungicide efficacy of the products on Blumeria graminis, i.e. Pyrenophora teres ranged from 56% to 74%, i.e. 66% to 76%, respectively. This efficacy in 2003 ranged from 86% up to 100%. The three-year average yield of spring barley increased by the application of fungicides from 4.2% to 14.3% (in accordance with the application rate and the variety response). This increase was statistically significant for both rates in comparison with the untreated check. There was no significant differences between rates 0.8 and 1.0 l of the applied product per ha. High yields were recorded in varieties Nitran, Expres and Ludan. Fungicide treatments positively influenced the TKW and a percentage of kernels retained on the 2.5-mm slotted sieve (except the variant 2N - Amistar at application rate of 1.0 l/ha, variety Nitran). The statistically significant differences between years were found. The grain yield varied over trial variants particularly over years, which was caused by climatic conditions during the three-year trial period.
